I have bought various Penstemon seeds to plant this year....i would be very grateful for any info on the best method of sowing the seed....indoors, outdoors, in situ?...heat, no heat, cold frame?...Thanks in advance...:>)

I've grown P. digitalis (Huskers Red) from seed - as I recall it was surface sown and covered with cling film before placing it on a windowsill in a warm room.
I used the same method for P. heterophylus (Electric Blue).
Both flowered in their first year.

Thank you meanie...I'll try your method...Anchorman, i've never grown them from seed either, though i find cuttings quite easy.....Thank you both again for the help...:>)
