Snow damage & remedy
By Preston

My hedge has suffered damage as a result of snow lying on the top of it (I think). What can I do to remedy the damage that has been caused? I live in Chester in the County of Cheshire, UK.

Are the branches laying down, or are there dead areas in it?
If the former, wait until spring, and see how many "spring" back up. Any that don't, cut off inside the outline of the hedge.
If the latter, wait until spring, and prune off anything that isn't sprouting.
Eventually, the holes will fill in.

What plant is your hedge? Most hedging plants can be cut almost to the ground and will regrow. That is why they are used as hedges as they will take severe regular pruning.
