I would plant them now in pots with the top of the swollen root just below soil level. Keep them frost free after planting, but not too hot and moist rather than wet.

Would you then replant them in the garden in early spring, Ob?

Sorry, yes, once Spring is here (if ever) then plant them out in the garden in a sunny well drained position.
