we have several fatsia japonicas and some have survived the heavy snow , there are couple that have gone soft and brown in the middle of the plant where new shoots would develope Im affraid theyve had it !! can they be cut off at the top ie where the mouldy area appears ?
help any one?

Remember to keep them on short rations of water until they regrow some leaves, if they are in containers. they are subject to root rot if they are kept soggy. That may be hard to control, in the ground!

Yes, but don't do it now - wait till April before hacking out large bits, or May if its still cold. You can then cut back quite hard and it'll regrow.
