I have Autumn fruiting raspberries (Joan J), and I believe they should be pruned back to the ground February/March time. I have noticed that they are now beginning to come out in leaf and produce buds. Is it still OK to cut them back?

Hi Hbu and welcome to GoY, autumn fruiting raspberries fruit on the canes that grow that year so, yes you need to cut all of last year's canes back to about 1 inch above ground.

Thanks, that makes me feel much better! They were new plants last year and cropped really well until the first heavy frost - I didn't want to finish them off!

How do I say thanks?
