This is more a technical question. I love looking at the herbaceous borders in members gardens and thought it would be great to hover the mouse over each plant and it come up with the name.

Not sure if this has already been tried or if it is possible.

Thanks

That sounds like such a great idea. How about contacting the site owners?

You can use the "contact us" link at the bottom of this page.

Yes, an excellent idea but I don't think that the site is capable of hosting it.

It would require enormously powerful image identification software and plants on many photos are probably too small or unclear to identify.

You could always post a comment to the member ,asking what a particular plant is,if it hasn't been named,Pdb,.would that help?

Just an update to say I have contacted Peter and this is his reply. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

" Thanks for your feedback. This is a really nice idea, but quite complex to implement. I will definitely add it to our list of things to consider for the future.

Best wishes

I did belong to a site for a short while where this was possible - and it was a great feature. Unfortunately, the site has now closed.

For Pdb's idea to work the person uploading the picture to the site will have to have named the plant in the first place. What is wrong with GoYers just labelling the pictures in text on the site?

Yes, that would help enormously Bulbaholic, but so often, people post pics without a proper name, no varietal name, or sometimes no name at all. And where the feature Pdb talks about is really useful is if you're looking at a whole border full of plants - you know, where someone posts a pic of a border showing one particular plant in full fig, but not mentioning the others. But again, the poster would have to name all the plants for the feature to work.

How do I say thanks?
