why do my leeks go woody, I grow them both outside and in a green house but they still go woody

From what I know, the dark green part of the leek normally becomes tough and chewy as it reaches mature size. You eat the white and light green portions. You may need to mound soil over the lower parts to blanch them, and keep them from getting tough. If some other part of the leek is getting "woody", please tell us.
