Thanks to all who helped with the identification of the Sedum. While you are flushed with success, may I try my luck with another and ask if you can identify the plant in the photo?

I think it might be a hellebore - the one that has green flowers.

Yes have to agree with Readejahn and so beautiful when it flowers.

Defintiely a green-flowered hellebore. It will flower in early spring and, if it likes the conditions, you will get a few more self sown later in the year

We have one - nice, unusual flowers.

Definitely the Hellebore. After it has finished flowering, when the seed pods are forming, cut them off or you will get loads of baby ones - they can get a bit out of hand!

All right then which green flowered hellebore is it then? There are a few to choose from!

LOL - Tell you when the flowers open!

If the flowers are completely green, it's H.viridis. If they have a red edge, it's H.foetidus

If you snap off a leaf and smell it and it stinks then it is foetidus. We have H. foetidus all over the garden and many of them do not have a red edge to the flowers.

If it's any help, the leaves of ours look exactly like this one, and (ours) is definitely green-flowering. I have a dim memory of hearing of "stinking hellebore" but have not yet carried out the sniff test personally!

One of the many forms of Euphorbia. Does it have a milky sap? If so then be careful the sap is toxic and hazardous to the eyes.
