Mowing lawns with freesias in them

My (buffalo) lawn has a large number of lovely freesias growing in it. When can I mow it without affecting next year's "crop". My wife says I have to wait until the leaves have died off, because the plant is taking up nutrients until then. Others have advised that I only need to wait until the flowering has finished. Can someone help?

You would be wise to wait until the leaves are dying off . or may not have many flowers next year. Sorry.
