Hi all, long time no connect. I wonder if anyone can help me identify this butterfly which I managed to photograph whilst on holiday in Lanzarote in the Canary islands. earlier this month. I have checked my books and have been on the internet without much success.i will be much appreciated if anyone can help? It is quite small and with wings open only about 3..centimeters across. Cheers Adoronron.

Quite a nice looking moth. i like both moths and butterflies. Where I live, you can quite often in the Summer find large moths trapped in the blocks of flats, but usually easy to catch safely and release.

Thanks for the responses to my question of identification.
Could be a moth I suppose, but it was seen flitting among the flower beds during the daylight most days. This one settled on our balcony table for the night and allowed me to photograph it. Thanks anyway for your answers.

I'll have to check out moths though.

going by the clubbed antennae I 'd say it was a butterfly, moth ones tend to be more 'combed' or fluffy. It looks like it might be one of the 'skippers'.

No idea what it is, but would like to compliment you on the photos! The Natural History Museum have a department dealing with butterflies and moths of the world, and they may be willing to identify it for you.

Thanks for all your replies, It is definately a butterfly called Geranium Bronze. (Cacyreus marshalli) It was kindly identified for me by Matt who I found on the internet. There is a lot of more info on the internet if you Google the name. Caame from South Africa to Europe about 15 years ago. It was considered a pest where geranium plants are concerned. Shane really as it is quite pretty. Thanks once again for your comments.
