Thanks Bulbaholic I'll leave it for a couple of months but suspect you are right in that it is probably old age.

my D mezurium?[not sure of the spelling with out looking it up!] is only just coming into leaf at the moment as it is deciduous.
the evergreen ones may have lost their leaves due to the harsh winter. Does it have flower buds if so then I am sure it will real leaf when it is 'happy'.

I back up Seaburngirl, if it's Daphne mezereum will have few if any leaves on it right now, but should be in flower.

And if its Daphne Bholua or a named form like 'Jaqueline Postill' this species is semi evergreen and loses many leaves around now just as the flowers appear.
Need to know which one (of which there are several).

I don't know where you live, Jib, or which Daphne you are refering to, but it should be full of leaf. If not I suspect that it may be dieing due to old age or the weather during the winter.
Leave it alone for another couple of months and then, if it hasn't greened up, try snapping off some twigs to see if they are green or dead.
