Having recently bought a couple of Philadelphus plants, looking at photos of them in flower. They look very similar to a plant i have Hibiscus (syriacus) White Chiffon, a hardy type. Is there a link somewhere.

The only similarity is that they both produce white, semi-double flowers, although those of the Hibiscus are a fair bit bigger!

No - they're from different plant families, Philadelphus classified under Philadelphaceae, and Hibiscus being Malvaceae. Similarity of flower is no guide to close relation of plants, other things such as roots, stems and more complicated botanical factors give rise to classification.
