I was wondering whether someone could suggest 2 different fruit trees for my back (south facing, clay soil) garden. My preferred criteria would be trees which grew approx 12 feet high, provide some degree of screening and are quick growing. Thanks in anticipation of your help. Ant.

Apples, pears and plums can be bought on a rootstock that keeps them to a certain range of heights. However, as usual, 'quick-growing' means that it will carry on past the size that you want to keep them at! I'd choose 2 apples that will pollinate each other. Plums are less easy to prune as they can only safely be pruned in summer.
