A friend (who doesnt own a computer) has asked me to try and identify the tree this seed pod has come from, sorry dont have pictures of the tree.

I think it is Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) Keep it in moist peat outside, protected from mice etc. and it will sprout next spring same time as leaves appear on the Oak trees.

Thanks for your help, I`ve googled the sugestions and I think it looks like the Quercus cerris.
