Magnolia Susan in a pot
I have a 3yr old Magnolia Susan, which has been in a pot and flowered quite well last year in our shady garden. We are moving soon and our new garden is full on south-facing and I would like it to take centre stage and provide some shade for a seat. Will it take this much sun and what's the best preparation I can do to the, currently grassy, area I woud like it to grow in?

Should be fine as prefers full sun to part shade. You'll need to remove a good size piece of turf, dig the soil over well and add lots of compost/humus. Remember to keep well watered this coming summer.

Thanks Moon Grower, it has some lovely buds on it this year, even though it is only about 1metre tall. We are moving next month, so I will wait until it has finished flowering before I put it in the ground. Not sure how quick it will grow before we get some shade under it, so we will just have to keep busy getting the rest of the garden sorted until it does - then we will certainly need the seat!?!?!??!
