Me again - I would like to plant a small conifer in my newly created border. I've spotted the one I want at the garden centre but can't remember it's name! Do conifers in general require anything special putting in the soil when planting?

Should be OK as long as it isn't chalk or limestone - mix some good compost into the planting hole. But if you want a small one do be careful as many of the ones you buy small will eventually grow big - even the dwarf ones can get bigger than you would think eventually, so ask about eventual size and vigour before you buy.

Hi Steragram, thank you for your reply and the advice. I'll ask at the garden centre like you say. The one I want said on the label 8 feet but I don't know if that's the eventual size - maybe not. So I'd better make sure. Thanks again!

How do I say thanks?
