I think it was a bit unfair that the picture of the two plants was poor as far as the second one was concerned, so I've taken what I hope will be a clearer one which may help someone to identify it.

Sorry Bernard still not sure.
It could be a Veronica as Readajahn said or it could be an Oregano/Marjoram or even a Salvia. Won't be able to tell until it flowers.

If the leaves are serrated it could be a cultivated speedwell. Basically a rock garden plant, it's pretty vigourous with dark blue flowers. Mine has been laid low more than once by who knows what but always comes back enthusiastically.
