I bought a plant last season at this time of year and it was nick named "Black Pearl" but it looks nothing like Drimeopsis Black Pearl. My plant was very dark green and purple and it made the entire plant look black. It was about 8 inches when I bought them and they grew to be 3ft. I kept them pruned back to about 2 1/2ft. They also had clumps of berries that were very dark purple to black and shiney. They really did look like black pearls. I was wondering if they would come back after the really cold weather this year. I haven't seen this plant at the nursery before or since. Can you tell me what it is and anything else about it???

I think we're struggling without a photo. Have you got any that we could have a look at?

Hi Shar,
you haven't mentioned anything about size/shape of the leaves or the flowers, or the type of plant that you have - shrub/herbaceous/bulbous? - so it's hard to be sure which your 'Black Pearl' is.
There are a number of plants named 'Black Pearl' and I'm sure there are a fair few others for which garden suppliers use that name too.
Lophomyrtus x ralphii 'Black Pearl' would be my best guess in terms of your description of the size/colour and fruit of your plant.
