Hi,

We live in a small terreced house in London. We have a small space on either side of our porch 6' x 4'. We were initially hoping to plant an acer on one side but it looks like it needs atleast 3 or 4m of spread space. I was looking for an alternative for dramatic effect at the front of the house.

Thank you
Anita

bay trees or any topiary plants will do this. Any slow growing shrub would be nice to. I like skimmia and my mum had 2 in pots by her front door.

I'd ask whether the area you want to plant is in full sun, or very shady, or half and half - or which way the front of the house faces.

Maybe Euonymus japonicus 'Chollipo'?

Fatsia japonica 'variegata' - you don't often see the variegated form, and its striking when you do.

How do I say thanks?
