Hello,I live in guatemala

Guatemala Gt

Hello,

I live in guatemala. I have a Acacia Dealbata, Golden Mimosa. It has been planted for about 2 years now. I see that it gets the blooms of the flower, but never flowers. Why is that?

Hello tugbrethil,

yes, that is exactly what happens. thanks so much for your input.

Thanks

Welcome, Suzanne!
Do you mean that it gets the bumpy green flower buds, but they don't open into the fuzzy yellow flower puffs?

With most Acacias, that means that they are drying out to much between waterings--though in Guatemala, I would only expect that to happen if they were growing in pots. Were there times that they wilted before you were able to get water to them. Another thing that could do that, is too much fertilizer just as the buds are forming. So, when you see the buds, resist the urge to give it a "reward", or a "push"--if that's the problem, be comforted: I had to learn it the hard way! : )

It's amazing how quickly a "drought tolerant" Acacia can dry out in a pot!

So it's just not timed to the local seasons, then. Hopefully, in another few years, it will get deep enough roots to make that less of a problem. Recommendation: water more deeply, not more often.

hello again, what do you mean by more deeply? do you think it will ever flower??

thanks so much!

Instead of applying 20 liters of water every day, apply 100 liters once every 7 days. People might want to sell you a deep root waterer, but it is almost always better to water from the top down, rater from the bottom up. The idea is to apply enough water at a time to soak the soil to a depth of a meter or so when you water. When the water is deep enough, then you don't have to water so often.

will do, thanks a bunch!! I have some lillies in bulbs. I was thinking of waiting to plant them, as I am leaving for a month and a half. will they be alright in their packaging?

thank you so much for all your help.

If they are true lilies (Lilium species) They will be better off in the ground, especially if you can get someone to water them once a week while you are gone. The many other bulbs called "lily"--i.e., Crinum Lily, Rain Lily, etc.--can wait in the bag. Enjoy your trip!
