Advice please on begonias
I bought some tubers by post and planted them in individual small pots to get them started. They are now growing at a considerable rate and a couple are well advanced with stems and full leaves. I know that I now need to move them on to a larger container but should I plant them into their final container at this stage and, if so, how many should I put in each container (dia approx 13 inches). Love the site and am very grateful for the advice! I should add that I still have the plants in the house, so when will it be safe to put them outside?

Thank you very much Spritzhenry. Yes, I have kept them in a cool room and following on from your advice, I will plant them on into the larger container and possibly move them into the garage (which is attached to the house, so not too cold!) and then into the greenhouse before putting them outside. As I am new to all this, my greenhouse is only one of the plastic ones so won't put them straight out into that but I am very grateful for your help.

Don't let them sit in lots of wet compost though, it may be easier for you to pot them up again into slightly larger pots and plant them in the final container in May.

Thank you very much for the advice - I am off now to pot up into intermediate pots and will plant as suggested in May into the final containers.

I normally plant three per container, and it does sound as though they're ready. You'll need to keep them safe until all danger of frost is over, though. I'm concerned that you say they're in the house - are they in a cool room? You'll need to harden them off gradually, as the growth will be very vulnerable to a chilly wind or cold spell.
