Hi I have just bought some cardiocrinum seeds (giant lilly/ lilly tree) and would like to know the best way to start them off ! Any suggestions ???
Dont know anything about gardening but I love lillies and manage to grow them no bother in pots ! These may be a bit of a challenge as they are seeds not bulbs : ( help !!!

Good luck, you may want to invest in a bulb or two for earlier results!

Hi Wickedone and welcome to GoY. You can grown Cardiocrinum from seed but it is a long slow process from seed to flowering bulb size - approx 5 - 7 years. I would also be concerned that you are sowing the seed now, it should be sown fresh in autumn to do well. However... almost fill you plant pot or container with seed compost, sprinkle the seed over the surface and cover with grit. If possible put into a fridge for 6 weeks, you wouldn't need to do this if the seed had been sown in autumn. Then just put the pot outside somewhere shady and make sure it stays moist but not wet. You may see germination next spring but I would expect it to be 2013 before you see any real signs of growth.
