Plants for North Facing Decorative Paddlestone Slate?

Hi,
New to gardening and landscaping here, so please forgive the amateur questions.
I recently laid some Decorative Paddlestone Stones into my front gaden and would like to place some nice plants within. The site is under a window, so I would something that will not climb and cover it.
Problem is it's North Facing. I would like something like Cordyline australis, spikey and striking but from my understanding, this prefers full sun and in my conditions would not last.
Anyone recommend something?

If you are looking for something with shape rather than flower then many of the ferns would be happy there.
Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on S and then on the menu choose Shade Plants and you will be spoilt for choice
