Willow trees are notorious for being easy subjects for getting bits to take root. If you take a twig and stick it in the ground it will probably root. As you're intending to get the cuttings to grow you may want to put the twigs in some compost in a pot and keep it watered. I'll bet they grow away for you with no trouble at all.
