I have a lot of small holes on my lawn caused I think by small insects burrowing and pushing out small mounds of earth. What do you think these insects are ? They have wings and I think are striped about 0.5 cm long
What should I do about them?

They are mining bees and very important in the general scheme of seed production. Leave them alone and in a few weeks time they will have stopped their digging activities. You can still mow the lawn, it does not seem to bother them at all. They do not sting by the way so no worries there.
