All the new shoots on my delphinum have wilted and curled up. What can I do to prevent it?

some of mine looked like this but when i investigated there were caterpillars in it. they are now fed to the fish but I fear i have lost the flower buds.

It sounds as if your delphinium has got too dry or has been hit by weedkiller!
