Hi there
I'm a newbie with large and probably unobtainable ambitions in my garden, but the first problem I nee help with is actually a hard landscaping one - I bought one of these last year for a bargain price http://www.gardensite.co.uk/Freestanding_Flower_Circle_from_Grange_Garden_Products.htm
but the instructions for fixing it down were non-existent and this thing is HEAVY!
A builder friend had me dig a trench 6ft long x 1 1/2 ft wide by 1 1/2 foot deep which is supposed to be filled with concrete as a footing.
Does anyone else think this sounds a little over the top? Any ideas? It will take a LOT of concrete!

thank you :)

Depends. As you say it will be a lot of concrete. But if it's going to look nice go ahead.

A heavy structure like this is going to take some holding up! If you decide not to make a proper foundation for it and just plonk it on the ground, it may settle and / or fall over. Which will give your friend a very amusing time. It will need a good base to be bolted to - I'd go ahead, buy, borrow or rent a concrete mixer, pick a fine couple of days and go for it - it's only 0.5 cubic metre.

My Steve was looking at them too!!!

More concrete the better I reckon, save it falling over and damaging other stuff in your garden!

thank you all. I just wanted to make sure and I do like to do a job properly. We get a fair wind rattling along here in Worthing.
Donna, it really is a pretty thing and makes a lovely frame to our raised veg area with plants growing either side as a screen.
