our austalian cabbage plant has died, several in our local area have also gone this way, is it due to to the recent bad winters or some type of paracitic bug?

I lost mine to, same as thousands of folk in this country, I haven't saw one survival around here, My friend had a huge double header for years and he lost it this winter, shame really, im not looking to replace mine, we could get the same winters as the last 2..

By the way many are not dead and will show signs of life from the base or elsewhere. Just been out inspecting and I have a new shoot at the bottom of my 20 foot+ tree, despite no top growth anymore whatsoever.

Yes its because of the cold. If you search for Cordyline you will find lots of similar questions. May not be dead just frost damaged.
