Hydrangea "blue wave"

I have a couple of hydrangeas outside my front door that i'd like to re-shape. Please can someone tell me when and how do i go about this?

They take hard pruning well - cut each stem hard back to a pair of healthy buds (but as Docbob says - not until April!) and also if there are any dead branches or twigs, cut them out.

In the spring after frosts. Do not cut the flowers off till April.
