My lilac tree last year produced some strange bud like things and didn't flower. This year it has flowered but not wonderfully. Any ideas about what is wrong. It is about 10 years old and the leaves look healthy.

Could it be that it was pruned rather late in that year and the flower buds were not fully formed?, best to prune lilacs just has the flowers are finishing, have the lilacs been gradually shaded over the years, could it be down to bud freeze?[ last years cold snap jan/feb] flowering is better when in an open sunny situation, julien.
