When do Braeburn apple trees start to leaf over? I bought a bare root tree which was delivered at beginning of April and it has shown no signs of life. I planted it in a 30 litre pot with mixture of potting mix and well rotted manure, and tied it to a stake.

Thanks, thats so reassuring. I was almost tempted to see if there was any life beneath the soil. I will try to be patient. I have done the scratch test and it is green beneath the bark.vf1xx

Thats so funny because I was tempted to do the "underneath check" too lol As it happens I've just read your idea on protecting runner beans from frost that are already planted, which mine are, great idea I'll be trying it out tonight, a frost forecast I think tonight!

Happy to be of help. I don't have a greenhouse as yet, (on my 5 year plan of things I need), so I have had to learn to improvise. I have just been given some tomato plants and some are too big for my temp greenhouse (which is really only big enough for seedlings), and I have potted them up and put them under my south facing pergola, and I may have to 'tuck them in' for the night also.vf1

I had the same worry with a plum tree, just the same as you, bare root, was delivered about the same time, mine has just started to push fresh green growth through black lifeless buds, maybe if you just do the scratch test to make sure its still alive and I think its just a matter of being patient a little longer, good luck!
