Bought fragrant oberon last year, planted in trough with trellis next to fence but the poor plant is really struggling to grow (3") Any tips!

Planted in a trough? Which is presumably only 6 or 8 inches deep at most? Not suitable I'm afraid - clematis need a good deep root run, so move it either to the ground, or into a pot that's at least 18 inches and preferably 2 feet deep and at least 12 inches wide.
