my huge old plum tree has contracted what i think is bladder plum disease. we had a fantastic crop of plums last year from this tree and a neighbouring smaller one. WHY HAS IT GOT THE DISEASE THIS YEAR, ALMOST all of the crop is affected on both trees. Could it be the bark chippings i have put around the base of the trees? how can i treat the trees? they are too big to spray

Bladder plum is an American term for Pocket plums. The fungus which causes this is more prevalent in wet years and it attacked the trees last season, this year is the second part of the problem. There is no cure, but remove all the affected fruit as the fungus lives in it. Next year should see a return to normal production. Sorry.
