my golden apple tree is about 3 years old....always looked healthy until this year....and now the leaves are curling.....plus the bark has split - which it did before with no problems...it healed

Are the leaves limp and curling? The splitting bark may be due to borers at work in the trunk. The damage they do keeps water from reaching the leaves, resulting in a permanent wilt. Other symptoms are "sawdust" under the bark, blobs of sap oozing from the bark, a sort of rippling of the trunk as live areas of the bark try to grow to replace the dead areas, and a swarm of suckers and water sprouts.
