Hello again...Last October, which is when I usually prune my shrubs, I pruned my lilac. I have found this spring I have no flowers. Was it the pruning or the harsh winter?? If it was the pruning when should I do it to preserve the flowers. I know you will have an answer for me...Thanks

A rule of thumb is, if it flowers before June, prune immediately after flowering, though there are exceptions.

Yes you have pruned the shoots that were to flower, off when you did this in October, if iam pruning lilac then i do this after flowering and usually they will flower the following year, however sometimes it can be a couple of years before they flower, regarding your other shrubs, be carefull what you prune, for example, forsythia and Ribes, if you prune these in october then your taking of the stems that will flower off, julien.
