is my clematis dying?

i've got a new clematis which started flowering last week but the flowers have closed up and are wilting the leaves are fading too

It's from the top down. It's covered in buds but the 2 that opened on Thursday (and looked lovely) are now closed and hanging their heads. I'ts called Abilene if that helps.

That cuts out the dreaded Clematis wilt, as that kills the plant from the bottom up. Normal reason for plants dying from the top down is a lack of water. This maybe due to the drought we are having, or physical damage to the base of the plant, usually by snails. So check that the stems at the base of the plant are undamaged and give it a real good soaking. I am talking of at least 4 gallons of water here.
