can I plant an arum lily now or is it too late? Was given it recently, and it was bought in a supermarket

They are dying back at the moment, to go dormant, so don't be surprised if it disappears! John is an optimist, I think - most Arum lilies are not hardy and I took my red ones into the greenhouse for the winter this week. It does depend a lot on where you are in the UK and what temps. you get as to whether it will survive outdoors. There's a pretty hardy one called 'Crowborough' a white one. That will stay in the ground.

I'm betting that if it was bought in a supermarket it will be white, in which case it will probably be Crowborough. I have a couple (well about 20) of that variety and they all make it through the winter even here in the frozen North. My neighbour even leaves hers in her pond.

Good thinking, John!
Albatross, what colour is your Arum lily?

Mine stay in the ground and pull through each year, but then they are sheltered and I live in Hampshire. I will take a pic tomorrow but I'm sure one of mine is throwing up new shoots, while the older stems are dying down.

if its been bought in a supermarket in theory it was grown in a greenhouse. i think youd be better off keeping it in a greenhouse /conservetory until the spring...

I take it you mean the zantedeschia type arum Albatross? I just planted one out 2 weeks ago. But I'm known for taking risks. Still if it's in a sheltered spot it should be OK.
