And the Opium poppy does not develop its narcotic properties in Britain. It is not hot enough for that to happen.

Good point Owdb. Though when he was a wee lad I did demonstrate to our son how they collect the 'milk' (no idea what the proper term is!) from the seed pod of one of our oriental poppies... I also explained in the UK there was no narcotic present. Can't imagine now why I was showing him this but I spent a lot of time explaining the natural world to him.

No, its common name is the Icelandic poppy and is, by the way, poisonous.
