Centaurea peculiarity.
The result of watering has been spectacular. The bud has opened up and produced its flower and even attracted a bee!

If you are new to this plant a word of warning: When it has flowered it flops and looks a mess. You can cut off the old stems and it will probably send up a new lot and flower again. It is an extremely tough plant and can be invasive if happy , so watch out for new plants appearing all around round it.

If its too dry, the buds will just sit there, and eventually shrivel and drop off without opening at all - that's true of most plants when they're suffering drought, they'll sacrifice their flowers in order to survive.
