it is really hard to say without a picture Christine, also do you know what variety it is, is it a fully hardy vareity or indoor/patio type? but if it is just happening this time of year, and it has been fine up until the atuumn and the leave are all dropping off, then it is proberly just autumn die back. in which case perfectly natural and nothing to worry about, they do loose all of thier leaves now and pretty much look dead until spring. and once the new shoots appear you snap off any dead twigs, feed and it will be back with a vengance next summer.
