I know that I need to restrict the fruits to 2 per plant (female) but how do I know which is female and which is male?

Shrubb, Pumpkins have both male and female flowers on the same plant. The females are the ones with baby pumpkins under the yellow petals. The males just have straight stems. Be sure to pollinate the females you keep, because they might not set fruit otherwise, and it may be too late to get another set going by the time you realise that the young fruit is shrivelling.
