I have just purchased a grandiflora and need to know where the best place would be to plant it, I have a longish thin garden that goes from full sun in the afternoon to shade all day because of trees, I have a border which is in sun most of the day but not very sheltered from wind (west facing) or I have a border that gets morning sun but then the sun disappears behind a three foot hedge early afternoon, I'm in a dylema as to where to plant it as it's cost me a fair amount of money so don't want it to die obviously and want to give it a fighting chance so hopefully one day I will see it flower. :O) regards Karen (Pocklington, York)

You will need to give us the full plant name - grandiflora is just a suffix on the name of particular varieties of plant, such as Magnolia grandiflora. If it is a magnolia, they like humus rich, moist but well drained (so not waterlogged) non chalky soil in light shade.
