Is it possible to dig up an Acer tree with a 3ins diameter trunk and 10ft high and 8ft spread and replant it in another garden. Thanks, T.R.Brannan

You'd also have to water it as you would a new tree for the first year - if it survived.

It is possible, but not advisable, and completely out of the question at this time of the year. The only time to attempt such a move would be when the plant is fully dormant, and even then survival is not assured.
Assuming this is an Acer palmatum/japonicum they have small and shallow root systems, so even relatively large plants can be moved with extreme care - we did just that with five 15-year-old Acer palmatum this last winter. It's really a job for a small JCB though.
