Kath's reply in a later question:
"Hi
Yes all the clumps i had did have roots and i planted them in 8inch pots and watered them daily thats why i carn't understand why one has taken and the others hasn't. Could you also tell me about how many clumps i should get from each lily please,i got 3 from each one is that too many"

Well clearly something's happened to the roots of one of them if you checked it recently and the roots aren't present. As for how many clumps to divide into, as long as each section as a good root on it, as many as you like.

Make sure that the roots are attached to crowns, as well. Roots without attached buds won't grow.

Did the part that hasn't grown have roots when you planted it out? In pots or the ground? and did you keep the clumps well watered?
