every year i try and grow geraniums and they always end up small, how do i get these large to produce loads of flowers?

True Geraniums are perennials in the UK, Raleigh. Pelargoniums are too frost tender to survive a normal British winter, except in the warmest areas of the southwest coast.

What kind of geraniums are you trying to grow? True, or Hardy Geraniums (Geranium species) or Zonal Geraniums and their kin (Pelargonium species)? I can help you with the latter, but I have little experience with the former.
