My Shasta Daisy smells horrible!
I grew some from seed and they have made a lovely show but when I picked a bunch to put indoors I found they gave off a horrible smell like manure. Is this normal?

If I am remembering correctly, dog daisies are one of the ancestors of Shasta daisies.

Leucanthemum vulgare is specifically the European Dog Daisy or Ox Eye Daisy.
The Shasta Daisy is Leucanthemum x superbum, a hybrid between two American species (forget which).

....and yes, because they attract flies for pollination, they do stink a bit!

I find they have a nasty smell. I wouldn't describe it as like manure, exactly, though. I have dog daisies that some people also call shasta daisies - guess why their common name is dog daisies? They smell like dog pee.... They're for outside only.
