Hi, This year l have bought some Petunia Surfinia Classic (Trailing) plants for my hanging baskets, and l have a few queries.
a) Can l harvest seed from them for next years baskets,
as l did not think that this was possible?
b) If seed collecting is not viable, when and how would l
have to take cuttings?
c) How would l be able to keep the roots small enough
to insert into the quite narrow space of my baskets?

Quite agree Volunteer, they are so easy in baskets and the results are fabulous. I have used Surfinia for years and they will trail a good 3 ft

I don't think that these produce seed and it probably wouldn't come true as the plants are highly bred. I have never tried cuttings but you would need to do this later in summer and keep the plants over the winter in a heated greenhouse. A nice experiment but probably easier ( and cheaper, due to heating costs) to buy new plants each Spring. Plug plants aren't very much anyway. And if you buy plugs, then they are easy to poke through the sides of the basket.
