Turning leaves yesterday I suddendly noticed a few wasps emerging, and then a few more, and then a lot more. I noticed the entrance to the nest and sprayed it at dusk - following the instructions on the can - but as the wire cage is quite deep, might they still be there?

All you can do is to watch out for wasp activity, and PLEASE be careful - angry wasps might attack you!

They are very persistent and it may take a few sprays - try to see if there are more than one entrance/exits and spray all of these that you find. It took over a week of spraying the entrances to the nest I had last year before they dissapeared. Hopefully your spray has a sort of extension pipe so you dont have to get too close. As Spritz says be careful, they are nasty when roused.

if its at ground level its worth shuttering the hole so it holds water at night ofcourse and fllod it out at night . you know if youve killed them as they will leave and come back to the nest strate away in daytime .

if you spread a wasp killing powder at the entrances to the nest the wasps will contact it and take it into the nest as they come and go and so be killed.when activity is seen to have stoped you can dig out the nest and the wasp pupae present are much saught after by fishermen

Thank you Emerge. There doesn't seem to be anymore activity at the moment but I am keeping watch and will certainly try the powder if they return.
