wilting fruit trees

i have just planted an apple tree and a plum tree in my garden and both are wilting. Although well watered they look like they are dehydrated and the fruit on the apple tree is also drying out. The ground they are planted in is clay rich and I wonder if it is too acid for them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When planting on clay soils you need to improve the drainage by incorporating crushed grit or sharp sand. The planting hole will fill up with water and the roots are starved of oxygen and are unable to deal with too much water hence the plant will wither and eventually die.

When you say they're well watered, can you describe precisely what that means please? Like how you water and how often? And when you say 'just planted', do you mean literally in the last couple of days? Also what area of the country are you in?
