How can I discourage parakeets? They descend on my damson tree and strip off every one! They are like locusts! I am happy to share my crop with squirrels and native birds as they leave enough for everyone, but last year the parakeets took every fruit and they are back again now. The tree is too tall to net. What kind of bird-scarer can I use in the city? I am desperate!

They are a problem in Amsterdam as well. Still, quite an exotic sight to see green and red birds in the snow! The only way I know of getting rid of them is to stop them getting to their source of food - so covering your fruit in a net.
